ERODE: This city will have yet another park. As and when the park at the Cauvery Road-R.K.V. Road junction is thrown open to public, it will be the fifth the Corporation has developed for the city.
This park has a speciality too: the civic body has developed the park in association with a private company under the Namakku Naame scheme. Of the total project cost of Rs. 20.20 lakh, the Corporation has contributed Rs. 9.5 lakh, leaving the rest to The Chennai Silks, which has chipped in to emerge as the major contributor.
As per the rules of the scheme, since the textile retailer has picked up the majority stake, it will get to develop the park and also one-third space on the compound to advertise.
Sources in the Erode Corporation say they issued the work order in June last year. They say the park, after initial delay, will be completed by August end. At 2,000-plus sq.m. the park will have a fountain, children’s play area and common area for walking. The entire place will be landscaped.
The Corporation sources say visitors will also have public convenience facility.
The entry is believed to be free-for-all. The textile retailer is expected to pick up the maintenance bill as well.
